The Chronicles of Myoo

The Evolution of a Fantasy Saga

Luca Bertolli

From a Simple Idea

It all began with the desire to write a fantasy novel. That first idea, born almost by chance, grew over time into a world filled with characters, places, and stories that continue to take shape.

How The Chronicles of Myoo Began

After years of writing technical manuals, I decided to write a fantasy novel, initially only in Italian. Bruno Abbietti’s books on Ninjutsu and Kuji-Kiri inspired me. The nine signs inspired the Senshi Mages’ magic; a tenth sign I imagined gave the series its title.

It all began with a single page: an emperor, worried that he had no heir, discovered that his wife was pregnant. That scene would later become part of the second chapter of The Senshi Order. I began developing the story, looking up Japanese terms with Google Translate and finding character names through Nomix.

The name Myoo also came from those readings. In the book Kuji-Kiri: magia segreta dei Ninja, I found a reference to the Myo-O of Japanese Buddhism and decided to use the name for my world. I had no idea that first page would become the beginning of an entire fictional universe.

The original trilogy, already published in full, has undergone a profound transformation over the years. I have rewritten entire sections, developed the characters in greater depth, and introduced new events, giving the story a much broader scope.

The three original novels have thus become five, giving The Tenth Sign series a new structure. Meanwhile, Myoo has continued to expand through stories set in different eras and tales devoted to other characters.

What began as The Tenth Sign has evolved over time into The Chronicles of Myoo, a fictional universe that continues to grow. Each new story enriches its past, present, and future on a journey still far from its end.

The Future of The Chronicles of Myoo

The world of Myoo still has many stories to tell. Alongside bringing The Tenth Sign series to a close, I am working on new novels that will explore distant eras.

Some projects will be set in the First Era, while others will continue the stories of characters introduced in earlier novels. New protagonists, unexplored places, and ancient mysteries will help expand a world that continues to evolve.

Not everything I have imagined has made it onto the page yet, and many ideas are waiting for the right moment to become stories. That is one of the things I love about writing: knowing there are still new paths to explore.
