Shōmashi Mages are among the oldest and most mysterious magical orders in the lands of Myoo. Unlike other types of Mages, they do not devote their lives to mastering multiple magical disciplines. Instead, they are born with a single, innate gift: Nullifying Magic, a rare form of magic capable of temporarily suppressing the powers of other magic users.
The origins of the Shōmashi Mages date back to the ancient kingdom of Yamikesh, many centuries before the rise of the Empire of Myoo. According to the oldest surviving records, their order emerged in response to the growing threat posed by the Kuroshi Mages, powerful spellcasters capable of stealing the magic of other Mages. To oppose such a dangerous enemy, a bloodline was created whose purpose was not to absorb magic, but to prevent its use long enough to capture its wielder.
Nullifying Magic possesses unique properties found in no other known magical discipline. The gift is inherited through a family's bloodline, yet it manifests exclusively in females. In males, however, it can remain dormant for generations without ever awakening, continuing to pass from one generation to the next until a female descendant is born, at which point the power emerges once again.
A Shōmashi Mage can temporarily strip virtually any Mage of access to their magic. There is, however, one known exception: Senshi Mages are completely immune to Nullifying Magic and cannot be deprived of their powers.
Their unparalleled mastery of Nullifying Magic also enabled the Shōmashi Mages to create one of the most significant inventions in Myoo's history: the Magisilium. This magical collar contains a small amount of Nullifying Magic, which is essential to its function. Once fastened around a prisoner's neck, the Magisilium prevents them from using any form of magic until it is removed. Thanks to this invention, the Shōmashi Mages provided the kingdoms of Myoo with an indispensable means of imprisoning rogue Mages and other especially dangerous criminals.
During the Fourth Age, some Shōmashi Mages left Yamikesh and settled in the Empire of Myoo. After the First Great War of Myoo ended in the Sixth Age, treaties between the kingdoms led to their relocation to the Kingdom of Jin, which has remained the heart of their community ever since.
Beyond their extraordinary powers, Shōmashi Mages are easily recognized by their distinctive attire. They wear form-fitting black leather uniforms designed to provide complete freedom of movement in combat. Over the centuries, another curious belief has become inseparable from their bloodline: every Shōmashi Mage is said to be born with exceptional beauty and a flawlessly proportioned physique. Some dismiss this as mere coincidence, while others believe that magic itself shaped this trait, making its wielders even more effective at distracting their opponents before stripping away their powers.
Feared and respected in equal measure, the Shōmashi Mages have left an enduring mark on the history of magic throughout the lands of Myoo. The mere presence of one on the battlefield is often enough to tip the balance of an entire conflict, making them one of the most valuable strategic assets on the continent.
